Should My Student Stay Home?

Helpful guidelines for deciding whether your child is sick enough to stay home:

PCSS follows the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Communicable Disease guidelines and CDC recommendations for school exclusions and readmission criteria.

New guidance simplifies previous recommendations intended specifically for COVID-19 and influenza in K-12 schools settings.

Fever: Oral temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher should not attend school until fever free twenty-four (24) hours without fever-reducing medication.

Cough: If your child’s cough brings up mucus or phlegm-type secretions, especially if it has color

Runny nose: If your child must constantly blow his/her nose to keep it clear

**Sore throat**: If it hurts to swallow, breathe, or speak
**Rashes**: Any undiagnosed rashes. If your child is itching and scratching to the point they cannot concentrate

Vomiting and/or Unexplained Diarrhea: 2 or more episodes within a 24 hour period

Untreated Pink Eye, Impetigo, or Head Lice
