The Pell City Schools Health Services Department is dedicated to the encouragement of health and wellness for all students and staff. Our primary goal is to support student learning. Believing that optimal health promotes learning, we want to provide services that foster student and staff health and safety.

Should My Student Stay Home?

Helpful guidelines for deciding whether your child is sick enough to stay home:

Fever: 100F or higher (It is important to note that a person can be contagious until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever (chills, feeling very warm, flushed appearance, or sweating) without the use of fever-reducing medicine)

Cough: If your child’s cough brings up mucus or phlegm-type secretions, especially if it has color Runny nose: If your child must constantly blow his/her nose to keep it clear

Sore throat: If it hurts to swallow, breathe, or speak

Rashes: Any undiagnosed rashes. If your child is itching and scratching to the point they cannot concentrate

Vomiting and/or Unexplained Diarrhea
