PCSS Teachers of the Year
Every academic year, each school within the system selects its Teacher of the Year for recognition for their dedication, hard work, and excellence in instruction. From each year's PCSS ToYs, two candidates (one elementary and one secondary) will be submitted to represent the entire system and compete at the State Board of Education district level, eventually leading to the selection of Alabama's Teacher of the Year. Pell City Schools has had several teachers advance to the State "Sweet 16" and State Final Four levels of competition, with one being named Alabama's Teacher of the Year.

What is a National Board Certified Teacher?
Every student deserves to be taught by an accomplished teacher. National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.
Most classroom teachers are certified by the states in which they teach. They must complete and pass coursework and exams as outlined in their state's standards. However, a National Board Certified teacher has completed additional standards beyond what state's require and has also demonstrated effective, research-based instructional practices in the classroom. It is the most respected professional certification level available for K-12 educators.
